Maine Passage - Successes and failures, Moving On…
Written mostly a week ago; current stuff at the end…
We left you as we had thrown out the hook in Portland. We’ve
spent the last week enjoying the hospitality of our hosts, my
sister and brother-in-law, who live in the Portland area. We’ve
also been the beneficiaries of their watching a mooring at the -

We have just returned from a great 3 week cruise of the San Juan islands and
the Canadian Gulf.
This gave us an opportunity to test our new Standard Horizon handheld
back-up VHF radio with built-in GPS (HX 850S).
The unit comes with a DCS test function, which enabled us to "ping" the CG’s
"RESCUE 21" network in the Pacific Northwest waters… and it worked like a -
According to the New Scientist magazine, we’re going to run out of zinc by
about 2037.
What’s the next best sacrificial metal… magnesium? LOL -
I have a Doral Prestancia 270 with twin 4.3 liter Mercruisers. Recently a
strange problem has developed that I do not understand. When planning at
3400 RPM and the synchronizer at zero now and again the synchronizer will
show the port engine down by 200 to 300 RPM. This lasts from 10 seconds to
30 seconds. When this happens there is a change in the sound of the motors -
Just pulled my vessel out of the river, getting ready to take a trip
to one of the local lakes for a week-long vacation on-board. This
vessel has only been in the water for ~5 months, but the zinc anodes
look like they’re working especially well. *THAT’s* good news, but I
wonder if I shouldn’t take a steel brush to ‘em while I have the thing -
A friend has a 55 foot power boat on which he installed an AIS
transceiver. Obviously, he didn’t purchase it in the US.
To start with, he had it improperly programmed. It wasn’t broadcasting
what he was. (Pleasure boat)
The Coast Guard was warning him (vhf) that he was out of the shipping
lanes, he was crossing the lanes illegally, he was about to go aground, -
Hello,
You may remember me, I’m the newbie who was asking about a trailerable
sailboat a few weeks ago. We decided to go with a small, trailerable boat in
the 15′-17′ range, nothing too ‘athletic’ because we’re old farts, and
preferably something with sides and seats because our old butts aren’t made -
Hi
All just wondering if there are any other Bell & Woodworking Seagull or Seamew owners out there?

Good morning all.
I’m new to this site but not new to boating. I’m looking to move into
the bigger boat type of boating since the price of gas is at record
highs - stupid eh?
Currently looking at a 1989 Doral Prestancia 30’ with twin 5.7 Mercs
(1200 hours each). The boat is in excellent shape with radar and all -
I’ve been watching the olympic swimming and notice that nearly all of
the swimmers wear the new performance swimming suits. I did a bit of
research on the web and came up with the following quote from Speedo:
The LZR-Race suits promise to have 5 percent less drag than Speedo’s
previous best FASTSKIN PRO suits that have helped break world records -
about bringing a Person 32 back from Bermuda to Halifax in mid
September. Good idea or bad given the forcasts?
